What they skip: raccoons are genuinely intelligent, have hands that operate like a rough draft of human fingers, and they will spend multiple nights testing your coop before they commit to a break-in. They’re patient in a way that foxes aren’t. I’ve watched one work a carabiner clip for four minutes on a trail camera before giving up. Four minutes. That kind of persistence changes how you think about latches.

The buried apron is the one people skip because it involves digging. Don’t skip it. Raccoons dig, and a standard skirt laid on top of the ground gets moved.
